Two Hamilton alumni — both highly regarded Washington insiders — will offer their perspectives on bridging the country’s current deep political divide facing the United States and the upcoming midterm elections, among other topics, during a live Q&A on Hamilton’s campus next Saturday, Oct. 27, at 10:30 a.m.

The Levitt Public Affairs Center’s Freedom of Expression Research Group is exploring the policies of institutions across the country including Hamilton's 1967 policy in order to make recommendations for revision.

On the brink of possible U.S. airstrikes in Syria, and a summit meeting with North Korea, the discussion between Susan Rice, former U.S. ambassador to the UN and national security advisor to President Obama, and Condoleezza Rice, former Secretary of State and national security advisor to President George W. Bush was particularly relevant on April 11.

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and former Ambassador Susan Rice joined a full room of students from Professor Alan Cafruny’s introductory International Relations classes, President David Wippman’s and Professor Rostow’s International Law course, and other faculty and guests for a session in the Red Pit before their Common Ground/Great Names appearance on April 11.

Andrea Mitchell, NBC News’ chief foreign affairs correspondent and host of MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports, will moderate the discussion between two foreign policy experts and former national security advisors, Condoleezza Rice and Susan Rice, at Hamilton on Wednesday, April 11. The program is free and open to the public, although tickets are required. Ticket information about tickets will be released in March.

Condoleezza Rice and Susan Rice, two former national security advisors with differing points of view, will discuss current issues on April 11, 2018, at 7 p.m. in the College’s Margaret Scott Bundy Field House. The program combines the longtime Sacerdote Great Series with the new Common Ground program for a moderated discussion open to the public.

Mike Dubke ’92 P ’19, veteran communications operative and former assistant in the Trump White House, and Marc Elias ’90, a partner with Perkins Coie who served as general counsel for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, met for a live Facebook chat on Dec. 2. The two discussed America’s increasingly polarizing political divide and what created this division, a conversation inspired by Hamilton’s Common Ground event.

The Hamilton community crossed and recrossed the aisle on October 18 during the inaugural Common Ground discussion, which featured David Axelrod and Carl Rove, chief strategists and chiefs of staff for former presidents Obama and Bush 43rd, respectively, as well as moderator Susan Page, Washington bureau chief of USA Today.
