  • The Hamilton College Department of Music presents a free faculty recital by Heather Buchman, trombone, on Sunday, Nov. 7, at 3 p.m., in Wellin Hall. Buchman will be accompanied by Sar-Shalom Strong, piano, and Ilze Brink-Button, horn, in the program of solo works and transcriptions for trombone by Bach, Scarlatti, Mahler and others.

  • The Hamilton College Theatre Department will present Naomi Wallace’s Slaughter City in eight performances in Minor Theater.  Directed by Professor of Theatre Carole Bellini-Sharp, shows will be staged Thursday, Nov. 4 - Saturday, Nov. 6, and Wednesday, Nov. 10 - Saturday, Nov. 13, at 8 p.m. There will be a matinee performance on Saturday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. The play is open to the public, and tickets cost $5 for adults, and $3 for senior citizens and students.

  • On Oct. 27, students in the Program in New York City attended a performance of the Broadway show, Billy Elliot. This show was named by TIME Magazine as the "Best Musical of the Decade."  The musical was an excellent fit for a program that examines issues in labor economics and employment relations since a main backdrop to the show is a strike by coal miners.

  • University of South Carolina professor Gordon Smith and Mark Welton, a professor at the United States Military Academy, will present “Foreign Corruption, Regime Stability, and U.S. National Security” at Hamilton College on Thursday, Nov. 4, at 4:10 p.m., in Dwight Lounge at the Bristol Center. The panel is part of the 2010-11 Levitt Center series on “Security” and is free and open to the public.

  • Family and friends of Hamilton students turned out about 1,500 strong for the annual Family Weekend, Oct. 28-31. Visitors enjoyed musical performances, sat in on classes and viewed posters of students' summer research.

  • William R. Kenan Professor of East Asian Language & Literature Hong Gang Jin gave the keynote speech at the Fifth Annual Five College Chinese Language Conference at Smith College on Oct. 30. Her talk was titled "Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language: Methodological Principles and Best Practices."

  • Visiting Assistant Professor of Communication Cheryl Casey presented in two roundtable discussions at the 68th Annual New York State Communication Association Conference at Honors Haven Resort in Ellenville, N.Y.

  • Waller Newell, professor of political science and philosophy and co-director of the Centre for Liberal Education and Public Affairs at Carleton University, will give a lecture, “The Code of Man,” on Sunday, Oct. 31, at 7:30 p.m., at Hamilton College in the Science Center’s Kennedy Auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public.

  • In 2009, Deborah A. Barany '11 and Anthony W. Sali '10 participated in Hamilton's Summer Science Research Program. Under the supervision of Psychology and Neuroscience professor Jonathan Vaughan, they investigated how people control movements in complex environments. A poster about the work was presented at the annual Psychonomic Society meeting in 2009.

  • Hamilton's Family Weekend will take place on campus from Oct. 28-31 with 1,500 family members and friends expected for the annual event. The weekend will give families a good idea of all the Hill has to offer, as activities are planned to entertain and educate.
