Jacob (Jake) Colangelo ’20 and Cameron DiGiovanni ’20 have been awarded Coccia Foundation Scholarships for study abroad in Italy. They will use the $2,000 scholarships to study in Italy this summer at the CET Siena Program.

Academic achievement prizes, prize scholarships and other recognition of student accomplishments were announced at Hamilton’s 67th annual Class & Charter Day convocation on Monday, May 7, in the Chapel. Among the top prizes, Jenny Soonthornrangsan ’19 was awarded the Milton F. Fillius Jr. /Joseph Drown Prize Scholarship, and Marquis Palmer ’18 received the James Soper Merrill Prize.

Hamilton College’s Class & Charter Day celebration, an annual convocation recognizing student and faculty excellence during the preceding academic year, will take place on Monday, May 7, at 4:15 p.m., in the Chapel.

The annual Dean’s Exceptional Service Awards and Scholarly Achievement awards were awarded to Rob Hopkins, Karen Brewer, Tina Hall, Dan Chambliss, Sall Cockburn, John McEnroe, and Xavier Tubau.

Students started creating Hamilton’s community mosaic mural on Jan. 27 and 28 with the help of Boston artist Josh Winer. The mosaic is being built to illustrate inclusivity and community.

Hamilton College’s highest awards for teaching were presented to Katheryn Doran, Kira Jumet, Andrea Townsend, Cindy Domack, and Colette Gilligan.

Team Varga was the overall winner of the 2018 HamTrek triathlon with a time of 59:02.39, Men’s swimming and diving team member Chris Klein ’18 was the male individual winner with a time of 1:01:02.82, and Assistant Professor of Geosciences Cat Beck was the top female individual at 01:09:10.29.

Marquis Palmer ’18 will explore “The Inner-World of Skateboarding Communities” in his Watson fellowship. Palmer, recently elected to Phi Beta Kappa, also received a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to the Czech Republic.

“How I became an atheist,” a poem by Heidi Wong ’20 has been announced as the winner of the Button Poetry 2018 Short Form Contest.

“Know thyself” is the motto that guides Hamilton students, and Joe Pucci ’18 is living up to that in his Bristol Fellowship, “Values, Methodologies and Locales in Learning Environments: An Inquiry Into Knowing Thyself.”
