Vice President for Libraries and Information Technology David Smallen P’97 was honored as the 2016 Distinguished Service Award recipient by Hamilton’s Alumni Association. Alumni Association President Gordon Kaye ’74 presented the award on April 8 during the Alumni Council’s Recognition dinner.

Ben Wesley’s ’16 lifelong interest in cars combined with intense curiosity about the world will serve him well when he travels to four countries as a Thomas J. Watson Fellow for 2016-17. Wesley’s project “What Moves Us: Exploring the Reflection of Culture in Car Enthusiasm” will take him to Brazil, Japan, South Africa and Germany.

Hamilton was well-represented with seven student attendees at the 9th annual Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) held April 1- 3 at the University of California, Berkeley. Aleksandra Bogoevska ’17, Andy Chen ’16, Leonard Kilekwang ’16, Alexandru Hirsu ’17, Emily Moschowits ’16, Sharif Shrestha ’17 and Tsion Tesfaye ’16 were among the more than 1,200 students chosen for the prestigious conference.  All are recipients of Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center funding and/or support.

Charlotte Carstens ’16 has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Germany. Carstens, a German studies and world politics major, studied in Tübingen, Germany, during her junior year.

The men’s hockey team turned from the ice of Sage Rink to the floor of the field house and captured the Hamilton Association for Volunteering and Charity (HAVOC) Kickball Tournament crown on Sunday, April 3. The event, which drew 11 teams and more than 80 student participants, raised $570 for the Daniel Barden Mudfest.

Eunice Lee ’16 has been awarded a 2016-17 Fulbright U.S. student grant to the European Union (EU).  She will research the EU’s food quality policy and how origin and quality regulations affect small farming communities. Lee is an environmental studies and French major and will be based at the French National Institute of Agricultural Research in Toulouse, France, throughout her research. She studied in France during her junior year.

Justin Long ’16 has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Thailand. Long, a linguistics interdisciplinary studies major, studied in Ecuador during his junior year.

Hamilton students are nearing the end of their spring break, but they’ll have plenty to look forward to when the spring semester resumes on March 28.  The college calendar is loaded with upcoming lectures, performances and events from now until the end of the semester. Take a look!

Evelyn Torsher ’17 has been awarded a U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) to study Arabic in Amman, Jordan.  She also received a CLS in 2015 and studied in Morocco.

Ten women participating in summer research in the Hamilton College Chemistry, Computer Science and Physics departments have been recognized as Clare Boothe Luce Undergraduate Research Scholars. Funded through a grant from the Henry Luce Foundation and matching funds from Hamilton College, these awards provide stipends and funding for equipment, supplies, and travel to encourage women to either begin or continue research projects in the three disciplines.
