The International Students Association participated in a Cultural Festival organized for third graders at the Seneca Street School in Oneida on March 3. Ahtesham Khan ’17 (Pakistan), Alex Hirsu ’17 (Romania), Sitong Chen ’16 (China) and Fiona Glen ’17 (Scotland) attended the event.

Six prizes were awarded in three categories in the annual Public Speaking Competition on Saturday, March 8, in the Chapel. The finalists were chosen after an open preliminary round held in February. Speakers’ presentations were either persuasive or informative in nature, and in one category students were asked to address an assigned topic.

Hamilton’s co-ed a capella group The Hamiltones, performed at New York University (NYU) on March 1. The Hamiltones opened for the NYU all-male a cappella group, Mass Transit, and performed four songs.

Thomas Tull ’92, founder and CEO of Legendary Entertainment and a member of Hamilton’s Board of Trustees, was part of a group of foundation and business leaders invited by President Barack Obama to discuss his “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative at the White House on Feb. 27.

Thirty-five Hamilton students are teaching Spanish to third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students at Clinton Elementary. They volunteer in groups and work closely with the Clinton students to help them improve their language skills and gain an appreciation for foreign languages. Hispanic Studies Teaching Fellow Maria Gabriela Portal and Elisabeth MacColl ’16 run the program, which will continue throughout the semester.

Four members of Hamilton’s Figure Skating team will compete at the Eastern Intercollegiate Competition at Liberty University in Virginia this weekend. Erika Craven ’14, Hannah Tessler ’14, Marta Antoniv ’17 and Sharon Di ’17 will travel to the Virginia competition.

Hamilton will host a film screening of America the Beautiful II: The Thin Commandments to recognize National Eating Disorders Awareness Week (NEDAW). The screening will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m., in KJ Auditorium.

Hamilton’s curling team finished the 2013-2014 season ranked 16th in U.S. College Curling Merit Point Standings, thus qualifying for Nationals which will be held March 14-16 in Blaine, Minn. Hamilton Team 1 will be competing against 15 other teams from all over the country. Team 1 members representing Hamilton are captain Meghan Doherty ’14, Tara Huggins ’14, Josh Devinney ’15 and Jake Davidson ’15.

Hamilton co-ed a capella group Duelly Noted will be opening for The Sing-Off Live Tour!, a touring show based on the hit NBC a cappella singing competition on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 8 p.m., at Turning Stone Resort Casino.

Four Hamilton students traveled to Albany, N.Y., on Feb. 12 to take part in Student Advocacy Day. Hosted annually by CICU, this event makes it possible for legislators to hear directly from students on what Opportunity Programs across New York State mean in their lives. Hamilton students who attended were LaShawn Ware ’17, Morolake Thompson ’14, Osvaldo Adames ’15, and Leslie Campos ’15.
