For Evan Fernando ’29, writing has never been simply about getting published. It has been a way to understand himself, advocate for others, and explore the issues that matter most to him.

Each year, hundreds of nonprofits across the region come together for Mohawk Valley Gives, a 24-hour fundraising campaign that raises millions of dollars for local organizations. This summer, Sydney Stern ’28 is helping with that effort while gaining a new perspective on the community surrounding Hamilton.

Emily Pogozelski ’26, Analisa Lona ’26, and Elijah “Eli” King-Bond ’26 will be taking what they’ve learned at Hamilton to Teach for America and AmeriCorps, respectively.

With their first semester at Hamilton now completed, members of the Class of 2029 took a moment to look back at their favorite classes, extracurricular clubs they’ve joined, and the faculty and ALEX advisors who have influenced them. Allie Ennis ’25 may have been singled out by the Class of 2025 as its student Commencement speaker, but when she stepped up to the podium, her remarks were all about community.

They arrived with curiosity, drive, and a sense of possibility — and now Hamilton’s Class of 2025 is stepping boldly into what’s next, with graduation canes in hand and valuable lessons learned. What shaped them during their four years on College Hill? Which moments, mentors, and courses stand out?

Hamilton’s Community Outreach and Opportunity Project (COOP) connects Hamilton students and employees with nonprofit agencies in Clinton, Utica, Rome, and beyond. Through 14+ direct service programs, students create positive change while developing close and enduring relationships with local communities.

Amy James, director of community outreach for COOP, was honored with the "Campus Angel" award from On Point for College at its annual Utica celebration on Nov. 14. COOP offers community service opportunities, connecting Hamilton students and employees with Oneida County nonprofit agencies - creating positive change for our community partners as well as educational experiences for our students.

At Hamilton, active citizenship is demonstrated in many ways. We talked to several students and young alumni who explain how they discovered an interest at Hamilton that led them to take action to create social change, and have a positive impact on society.

Members of Hamilton’s Class of 2024 have walked off the Commencement stage, canes in hand, and out into the world ready to make a difference.
