  • Assistant Professor of Art Robert Knight took a group of students from Art 116: Introduction to Photography, to MASS MoCA on Oct. 20.  According to Knight, “It was a great chance for the students to get off the Hill and see one of the region’s best contemporary art museums.”

  • Hamilton College will close today (Oct. 29) at 5 p.m. in anticipation of the arrival of Hurricane Sandy.  Due to the high wind advisory, and to minimize pedestrian travel around campus, all activities after 5 p.m. are canceled and facilities will be closed. Commons and McEwen Dining Halls will be open for student dining. Normal operations will resume on Tuesday.[Update 5 a.m. 10/30/12 -- Hamilton has confirmed that it will resume normal operations on Tuesday]

  • Bad weather held off and students and their families reunited for Hamilton’s annual Family Weekend on Oct. 26-28.  Some 1,470 visitors enjoyed musical and dance performances, sat in on classes, viewed posters of students' summer research and shopped in the village of Clinton.

  • Associate Professor of Government Peter Cannavò published an op-ed, “The Real Frankenstorm,” on The Huffington Post (Oct. 26, 2012). In the piece Cannavò questions why the subject of climate change has not been addressed in this year’s presidential race.

  • Hamilton's Family Weekend will take place on campus from Oct. 25-28 with 1,470 family members and friends expected for the annual event. The weekend will illustrate the many opportunities Hamilton has to offer, as activities are planned to entertain and educate.

  • Ten Hamilton seniors were elected to the Epsilon chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest honor society, at  the October meeting. The inductees are Kiernan Acquisto, Emily Archer, Michael Breslin, Cooper Creagan, Catherine Crone, Noah Ford, Marta  Johnson, Lindsay Kramer, Yonghyun Song  and Harrison Swan.

  • New York Times bestselling romance author Eloisa James will read from her work on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 8 p.m., in the Fillius Events Barn. James writes historical mass-market romances for Avon Publishers, an imprint of HarperCollins. The reading is free and open to the public and will be followed by a book-signing.

  • The  Hamilton College fall 2012 F.I.L.M. (Forum for Images and Languages in Motion) series will screen Punish Me on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m.,  in the Bradford Auditorium, Kirner-Johnson Building.  The screening is free and open to the public.

  • The 11th Annual Hamilton College Fall Fest will take place on Sunday, Oct. 21, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., on the Clinton Village Green. Fall Fest is an initiative that was started in 2002 by the Hamilton Class of 2005 to reach out and join with the local community for an afternoon of food, fun activities and entertainment.
