More reunion memories were made on Friday, June 1, as events continued throughout the day and into the evening. Among highlights were Bicentennial Colleges with Edward "Ned" Walker ' 62,  Elaine Weiss K'73 and Robert Moses '56, a night of jazz, and fireworks over Royce Baseball Field.

Alumni began arriving from near and far on Thursday, May 31, to begin the Bicentennial Reunion weekend festivities. Thursday’s highlights included a tour, “The Legacy of Trees on the Hamilton Campus,” guided by Arboretum Director Terry Hawkridge  P’01, and “Giants in the Earth,” a talk and tour of Hamilton’s Cemetery, led by Hamilton Alumni Review Editor Emeritus Frank Lorenz.

Lauren Howe ’13 presented a paper she co-authored with Morgan Osborn ’14 and Katrina Keay ’14 at the Canadian Association for Food Studies (CAFS) 2012 Conference on May 26. They wrote the paper, “Let’s Dig In! Adirondack Food Culture Through the Ages,” for Professor Robin Kinnel’s Adirondack seminar (ES 220 Culture and Natural History of the Adirondacks).

Hamilton’s annual reunions take on special significance this year as the college celebrates its bicentennial with an All-Alumni Reunion, May 31-June 3. More than 2000 alumni and their guests are expected.  A special welcome is extended to members of the class of 1962 who are celebrating their 50th reunion. A full schedule of events will keep attendees busy all weekend.

In observance of the 200th anniversary of Hamilton College’s founding, the Hamilton College Arboretum Association will host the A.P. Saunders Tree Peony Fest on Saturday, May 26, from 10 a.m. to noon, in Grant Garden of the Root Glen.  The community is invited to see the Saunders peonies at their peak and stroll the shaded paths of Root Glen.

In his address at Hamilton College’s Bicentennial commencement, A.G. Lafley ’69, former chairman and CEO of the Procter & Gamble Co., urged the Class of 2012 to embrace the choices life hands them because they will learn something from each one they make. “While you can’t control the twists and turns that will push and pull your life in unanticipated directions, you can control the person you choose to become,” Lafley said. He shared a few things he’s learned since he graduated from Hamilton in 1969.

As is the custom at Hamilton, the Dean of Faculty recognizes retiring faculty and hosts a reception in their honor at the last faculty meeting of the academic year. On May 16, Dean of Faculty Patrick Reynolds honored four professors retiring this year: Professor of  Anthropology Charlotte Beck; Jim Bradfield, the Elias W. Leavenworth Professor of Economics; Professor of Government Ted Eismeier; and  Jay Williams ’54, the Walcott-Bartlett Professor of Religious Studies. Following are the tributes Reynolds read.

The winners of the Beverly S. and Eugene M. Tobin Employee Awards were announced at Hamilton’s annual employee service recognition luncheon on May 14 at Soper Commons.

A.G. Lafley, former chairman and CEO of the Procter & Gamble Co., and chairman of Hamilton’s board of trustees, will deliver the Commencement address at Hamilton on Sunday, May 20, at 10:30 a.m., in the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House. A live webcast of the commencement ceremony will be available online beginning at 10:15 a.m.
