Professor of English and Creative Writing  Doran Larson has edited a new book Fourth City: Essays from the Prison in America (Michigan State University Press). The book contains 71 essays written by prisoners from across the U.S.

Hindi Is Our Ground, English Is Our Sky, a book by Associate Professor of Anthropology Chaise LaDousa, was recently published by Berghahn.

"American Ethnographic Film and Personal Documentary: The Cambridge Turn," a book written by Visiting Professor of Art History Scott MacDonald, was ranked #2 in a Slant Magazine article titled “The 10 Best Film-Studies Books of 2013.”

Naomi Guttman, professor of English and creative writing, published four poems in the fall issue of Gastronomica: The Journal of Food and Culture.

Christian Goodwillie, director and curator of Special Collections and archives, co-authored a book on Shaker hymns titled Richard McNemar, Music, and the Western Shaker Communities: “Branches of One Living Tree.” The book presents a study of the Shakers’ movement west during the early 19th century.

Murder Ballad, the second collection of poems by Assistant Professor of English Jane Springer, has been named co-winner of the 2013 New England Poetry Club Sheila Motton Prize, 2013.  The category was judged by poet Vivian Shipley.

A book in which Assistant Professor of Hispanic Studies Xavier Tubau contributed a chapter has been published by Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona. It is titled Las razones del censor. Control ideológico y censura de libros en la primera Edad Moderna (Understanding the censor. Ideological control and book censorship in the Early Modern Period).

Professor of Government Robert Martin presented "Between Rosanvallon and Ranciere: Toward a Theory of Dissentient Democracy" at "Ideas and Reality of Democracy," the 2013 Symposium of the Civil Constellation Network, held at the Aland Peace Institute, in Mariehamn, Finland in September.  Some of the arguments from the conclusion of Martin’s newest book, Government by Dissent - Protest, Resistance, and Radical Democratic Thought in the Early American Republic, served as the foundation for this paper.

Professor of Religious Studies Heidi Ravven was interviewed by Tablet Magazine about her book, The Self Beyond Itself: An Alternative History of Ethics, the New Brain Sciences, and the Myth of Free Will (The New Press, 2013). That interview is described and summarized in the July 1 issue of the magazine, and a link to the 25-minute interview with Tablet contributor, Sarah Ivry, is published.

American Ethnographic Film and Personal Documentary: The Cambridge Turn, a book by Visiting Professor of Art History Scott MacDonald, has been published by University of California Press in Berkeley. The publication is the result of a project for which MacDonald received funding from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2012 as an Academy Scholar.
