President Joan Hinde Stewart was recently elected to the board of directors of The Fred L. Emerson Foundation, a private family foundation that provides support to not-for-profit organizations in Auburn, N.Y., and the surrounding Central New York area.

Alumni, parents and friends of Hamilton have established a $5.4 million endowed scholarship to honor President Joan Hinde Stewart, who is retiring June 30 after 13 years.

Student and faculty academic and service accomplishments were recognized and President Joan Hinde Stewart was honored at the 66th annual Class & Charter Day on May 9. President Stewart will retire from Hamilton on June 30 after serving the College for 13 years.

This year the national media highlighted the college’s focus on expanding access and equalizing experiences on campus in several major articles. Outlets featuring these Hamilton policies and programs included The Chronicle of Higher Education, Huffington Post and the Hechinger Report. The college also received broad national media attention most recently with the announcement of its incoming president, David Wippman, via an Associated Press news story.

Hamilton’s need-blind admission policy is the focus of a Dec. 18 feature story published by Huffington Post titled “How One Top College Ended a Policy that Weeded Out Poor Students.” The article detailed how Hamilton made the decision to eliminate merit scholarships and later to adopt the need-blind policy that eliminates applicants' financial need from consideration in admission decisions.

In the last month, several national media outlets – including National Public Radio, National Journal and Inside Higher Ed – have included comments from Hamilton experts in various news stories related to corruption, politics and academe.

The Hechinger Report recently interviewed President Joan Stewart for a feature article focused on Hamilton’s initiatives to expand access and equalize student experience on campus.  The article appeared online on March 17 on The Hechinger Report website and the Washington Monthly magazine "College Guide" website.

President Joan Hinde Stewart has announced her plan to retire on June 30, 2016, after 13 years leading the liberal arts college. Stewart informed members of the Hamilton Board of Trustees during their quarterly meeting Friday in New York City. When she concludes her presidency in 18 months, Stewart will be the eighth longest serving president in the College’s 200-year history.

Hamilton President Joan Hinde Stewart along with five other college presidents will be addressing a crowd of nearly 400 educators, journalists and business leaders next Monday, May 5, at  the Innovation + Disruption Symposium hosted by Colgate University at Manhattan’s TimeCenter. The panel of college presidents will focus on the topic of “Seizing the Initiative in the Digital Age.” 

Hamilton College President Joan Hinde Stewart attended an all-day summit on Thursday, Jan. 16, hosted by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama in Washington.  Note: Following this meeting, President Stewart discussed her observations on Albany public radio station WAMC-FM  and Utica station WIBX-AM.
