Organic chemistry research students from Hamilton, Colgate University and Hobart and William Smith Colleges convened to report on their summer research on July 8 when Hamilton’s chemistry department hosted the annual meeting of the Summer Organic Research Symposium (SmORS).

Jennie Wilber ’17, Shannon Boley ’17 and Talia Vaughan ’18 presented papers as part of a panel on “American Sacred Space: Constructing and Contesting the Sacred across Cultures” during the annual Eastern International Region meeting of the American Academy of Religion (AAR).

Thirty-nine members of the class of ’18 as well as six transfer students arrived on the Hill on Jan. 16 to register, move in and take part in Hamilton orientation.  The College offers January admission to about 35-45 students per year to fill vacancies created by students on leave and studying abroad.

The first semester of Hamilton’s pilot program, First Year Experience (FYE), has concluded and been deemed a success by Coordinator of Orientation and First-Year Programs Tessa Chefalo. She reports that approximately half of the first-year class participated in some type of FYE programming, including Core Sessions, FYE social programming, and/or FYE-eligible events.

Last year at this time (Heqing) Amy Zhang ’18 was a senior at Sheboygan Falls High School in Wisconsin. Little did she know then that a piece she wrote for a high school English assignment would within less than a year become a young-adult novel. Falling Into Place was published by Harper Collins in September.

Members of Hamilton’s class of 2018 arrive on campus to begin New Student Orientation on Saturday, Aug. 23. More than 280 first-year students took part in pre-orientation programs Adirondack Adventure, Outreach Adventure and the new eXploration Adventure and returned to campus on Friday. The remaining members of the class will arrive and move in for New Student Orientation, which begins on Saturday, Aug. 23.

As members of Hamilton’s Class of 2018 prepare to return to campus for Orientation, some of the pre-orientation groups shared photos of their programs as they explored  attractions in Utica and the Adirondacks and learned about bee-keeping and battlegrounds.

Adirondack Adventure, Outreach Adventure and eXploration Adventure Hamilton’s pre-orientation programs for new students, welcomed 283 members of the Class of 2018 on Friday, Aug. 15.
