  • Hamilton College will name its theatre and studio arts building for Kevin and Karen Kennedy in recognition of their lifetime giving to the college, including $10 million for the new project. They are the lead donors to the $46.8 million building that is located directly across College Hill Road from the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art, which opened in 2012.

  • Six months ago, Samuel Matlick ’17 competed with more than 50 other current students and recent graduates in Hamilton’s fourth annual Pitch Competition. His win there encouraged him to forge ahead, hoping to bring his idea to fruition. A week ago, he presented his plan at a regional business plan competition hosted by SUNY Institute of Technology and he walked away a winner again.

  • Daniel Chambliss, the Eugene M. Tobin Distinguished Professor of Sociology, was interviewed for a feature in the April 13 issue of The New York Times Education Life section titled “What Makes a Positive College Experience?” The article offered a glimpse of the extensive results from Chambliss’ decade-long, Mellon-funded student study culminating in the newly published How College Works. Co-authored with Chambliss’ former student and current University of Chicago doctoral student Christopher Takacs ’05, the book was released by Harvard University Press in March.

  • Associate Professor of Chemistry Myriam Cotten is the corresponding author of a paper that was selected as the cover story in the March 5 print edition of the Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS).

  • Genevieve Caffrey ’17 and Caroline Kreidberg ’17 recently helped organize the first Animal Rescue Law Forum for Hamilton parent Kevan Cleary P’12. It was hosted by the New York County Lawyers Association. The students set up the social media, press releases, phone calls and emails to interested parties, handled the replies and follow up and worked the night of the event.

  • Catherine Brown, senior director of visual communications in Hamilton’s Communications Department, was honored as the 2014 Distinguished Service Award recipient by Hamilton’s Alumni Association. John Hadity ’83, president of the Alumni Association, presented the award on April 4 during the Alumni Council’s Recognition dinner.

  • Hamilton alumnus and music major Jeff Dyer ’04 returned to Hamilton on April 3 for a discussion and performance with famed flute player, Arn Chorn Pond. Pond is a Cambodian-American who experienced the horrors of genocide when the Khmer Rouge took control of his native country and forced Pond into a child work camp.

  • Ryan Serhant '06 will star in the third season of Bravo's Million Dollar Listing New York, premiering April 2 at 9 p.m. (eastern).  Cameras follow Serhant everywhere as he competes with two other brokers for clients and properties. According to Bravo, the premiere of season three will find Ryan listing a $23 million one-of-a-kind apartment that has never-before-seen features.

And still others don’t realize until their senior spring that they possess the interpersonal and persuasive skills that make successful publicists. On March 29, Hamilton students and alumni convened at the Brooklyn Public Library to discuss the publishing industry and the myriad roles one might play within it. The event, called CareerExplo: Publishing, was sponsored by the Maurice Horowitch Career Center.
