Associate Professor of Chemistry Adam Van Wynsberghe presented an invited seminar titled “Development of a multi-scale sampling methodology to examine the favored ligand binding pathways of influenza neuraminidase” at Union College on May 12.

BSS News Bites ranked DCT Industrial Trust Inc. President and CEO Philip L. Hawkins ’78, in the top 10 percent for his performance this past year. This New York Stock Exchange performance ranking was for the year that ended on May 2, 2016. During that time period, DCT Industrial Trust Inc. shares were up 27 percent. Hawkins ’78 joined the company in 2006 where he led its initial public offering on the NYSE and the subsequent growth of its operating business and development platform.

Greg Casey ’09, founder and first president of Hamilton Microfinance, met with current members of the organization when he visited campus in April. The students heard first-hand how Casey started the organization and how it has influenced his post-grad plans.

The Oral Communication Center hosted the second annual Three Minute Thesis competition on April 30. Open to all members of the senior class, the competition offers cash prizes for the students who can most effectively summarize their senior projects in three minutes or less. This year’s competition hosted 15 students whose majors and interests ranged from post-colonial economics to concussion management for athletes.

The Hamilton College and Community Masterworks Chorale with the Hamilton College Choir and members of Symphoria will perform their spring concert on Tuesday, May 3, at 7:30 p.m., in Wellin Hall, Schambach Center for Music and the Performing Arts.

Hamilton's Ultimate Frisbee team celebrated its 40th anniversary with a tournament on April 9.  Nearly 40 alumni/former players came back to compete, including 15 from the early to mid -80s and close to 25 from the 2000s. Hamilton’s team currently has 50 active players.

Hamilton alumnus Steven Butterhof ’05 was named the 2015 Navy Reserve Sailor of the Year (RSOY) during a ceremony at the United States Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C., on April 8. He was chosen from 36,000 sailors. Fewer than 150 individuals have received this honor since its inception in 1972.

Several senior geosciences majors presented their senior thesis research results at the Geological Society of America (GSA) Northeastern Section meeting held in Albany, N.Y., last month. Alexander Doig received an Outstanding Undergraduate Poster Award for his presentation of “Orientation, Spatial Distribution, and Chemical Composition of Paleozoic Diabase Dikes on Swans Island and Neighboring Islands, Penobscot Bay, Maine.”

Gregory Casey ’09 returned to campus on April 15 to participate in a seminar series sponsored jointly by the economics departments at Hamilton and Colgate University. He presented a talk titled “Instrumental Variables in the Long Run,” a joint project done with Marc Klemp of the University of Copenhagen.
