High school students from The Urban Assembly School for Emergency Management (UASEM) in New York City visited Hamilton on April 16 -17 to discuss privacy in the digital age with a group of Hamilton students.

Co-Director of the Digital Humanities Initiative (DHi) Janet Simons, Philippa (Pippa) Schwarzkopf ’16 and John Bartle, associate professor of German and Russian languages and literatures, gave an invited presentation of two short films on April 2 at Hartwick College.

An article titled “Molecular Genetic Diversity and Characterization of Conjugation Genes in the Fish Parasite Ichthyophthirius multifiliis,” by Associate Professor of Biology Wei-Jen Chang, along with six Hamilton students and recent graduates, appears in the May issue of Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution.

Students in ECON446, Monetary Policy, advanced to the semifinals of the College Fed Challenge after competing at the New York Federal Reserve on Oct. 31. The class is taught by Henry Platt Bristol Professor of Economics Ann Owen.

Senior mathematics concentrators Caitlin O'Connor, Meghan Doherty, Mao Ding, Carson Potter, Peter Talpey and Madeline Umscheid were speakers at the 21st annual Hudson River Undergraduate Mathematics Conference, held this year at Marist College on April 26.

Sam Matlick ’17 received a $1000 “People’s Choice” award in the Information Technology/Software category at the fifth annual New York Business Plan Competition on April 25 in Albany. A total of 92 teams from 36 New York colleges and universities vied for $500,000 in awards at the competition that took place at the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering.

Students in Hamilton’s International Students Association (ISA) traveled to New York City on March 18. The trip included visits to the United Nations Headquarters and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Hamilton’s curling team finished the 2013-2014 season ranked 16th in U.S. College Curling Merit Point Standings, thus qualifying for Nationals which will be held March 14-16 in Blaine, Minn. Hamilton Team 1 will be competing against 15 other teams from all over the country. Team 1 members representing Hamilton are captain Meghan Doherty ’14, Tara Huggins ’14, Josh Devinney ’15 and Jake Davidson ’15.

Escorted by Lt. Col. Eric Hannis ’90, students in the Hamilton Program in Washington were treated to an extensive tour of the Pentagon on Dec. 11.

For students unable to return home over Thanksgiving break, Hamilton’s Student Assembly and President Anthony Jackson ’14 ensured that they too were able to enjoy a traditional holiday feast.
