A paper co-authored by Associate Professor of Psychology Jennifer Borton was published in the March-April issue of The Journal of Social Psychology. “Does Suppressing the Thought of a Self-Relevant Stigma Affect Interpersonal Interaction?” was co-written with David Reiner ’05, Erica Vazquez ’08, Jessica Ruddiman ’09 and Stephanie Anglin ’10.

The DownBeat Keys, a band composed of Kadahj Bennett '12, Will Preston '11, Jared Schneider '11, Baldwin Tang '10, Ryan Calabrese '09, and Andrew Root '09, is scheduled to perform at The Bitter End in New York City on Saturday, Dec. 18. Because the Bitter End is one of the city's most well-known clubs, The DownBeat Keys have captured the attention of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), who profiled the band in their "Radar Report."

Alice Popejoy '09 has contributed a post titled “Genetic Discrimination: The Best Reason for Universal Healthcare You’ve Never Heard Of” to the blog The Intersection at Discover Blogs. The post draws upon research Popejoy conducted at Hamilton with Professor of Biology Jinne Garrett about DNA, genetic testing, and the law.

Since her graduation, Danielle Ain '09 has been working for Abroad101, an internet startup review site for study abroad programs. Recently, Abroad101 was named a finalist in the MassChallenge Global Startup Competition and Accelerator and awarded $50,000. The competition is the world’s largest for startups.

Alumni Keith Gross ’09 and Brendan Sullivan ’07 with Yale alumna Jennifer Lanski have published an article with Professor of Mathematics Richard Bedient and Yale Professor Michael Frame in the journal Fractals. The paper, titled “Higher Block IFS: Memory Reduction and Dimension Computations,” is the result of work over a period of years by the authors as parts of various senior projects.

Alumni and students had the opportunity to experience the power of the college’s alumni network firsthand at the GOLD (Graduates of the Last Decade) Summit on April 16-18. Many presentations focused on the power of social media and other digital solutions to expand career opportunities.

Having proven herself as a Bonner Leader, Emily Powell ’09 was awarded $1,000 as part of the CASE Foundation Grant secured through the Levitt Center last January to fund The Weaving Project. The success of the initial project, which was conducted in coordination with a Women's Studies course in Global Feminism, assisted the Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees in securing additional funding to expand the undertaking.

Members of the Hamilton College Junior Year in France recently went to the Sonja Helle Ice Rink at Bercy Stadium in Paris to cheer on Kyle Roulston ’09, the newest member of the Paris hockey team, Les Français Volants. With the help of Norm Bazin, Hamilton’s men’s ice hockey coach, Roulston joined a team that travelled to Europe this past summer looking to place North Americans in the European hockey system. Offered a spot on a team in Bad Tolz, Germany, and in Paris, Roulston jumped at the chance to play in the French capital.

Kyla Gorman '09 has been awarded $10,000 by the Penny Arcade Scholarship Program. Gorman intends to use her money to pursue a degree in game design from The University of Southern California.

The New York State Political Science Association (NYSPSA) awards committee selected papers written by two recent Hamilton graduates for the 2009 Best Student Papers honors. Blake Hulnick ’09 wrote “The Politics of State-Based Electoral College Reform” and Deanna Edwards ’09 wrote “Outsourcing the Military: Blackwater, Halliburton-KBR, and a New Military-Industrial Complex.”
