While researching a project about Mrs. Frank Leslie, a 19th-century publisher who bequeathed her fortune to a leading suffragist, journalist Elaine Weiss K’73, P’07 encountered a rivulet of history she couldn’t resist. Mrs. Leslie’s story was big and bold — fabulous wealth, business success, notorious love life — but Weiss followed the rivulet.

Elaine Weiss K’73 launches her book, The Woman’s Hour on March 6. Weiss’ comprehensive new book follows the journey of famous suffragettes engaged in debate over the 19th amendment and state rights.

Willie E. Williams ’73, a renowned photographer and the Audrey A. and John L. Dusseau Professor in the Humanities at Haverford, recounted his early experiences with art during a talk in the Wellin Museum’s gallery.

Students participating in the Fall 2016 New York City Program recently visited Stephen Sadove '73 in Manhattan. Sadove, chairman of the Board of Trustees at Hamilton, is the former CEO of Saks Fifth Avenue. He began with a description of his career path then answered questions of interest for the students.

The Hamilton College Arboretum Third Saturday series continues on Saturday, March 19, with professional landscape designer and garden writer Judy Nauseef K’73. She will present a lecture titled “Residential Garden Profiles” at 10 a.m. in the Kennedy Auditorium, Taylor Science Center.

On Oct. 2, NYC Program students crowded around a Saks, Inc., conference room table with CEO and Hamilton alumnus and board chair Steve Sadove ’73 P’07,’10,’13.  Sadove spoke about his successful career in marketing and management before fielding questions from the group.

The College Board of Trustees has unanimously elected Stephen I. Sadove ’73 to be its next chair, effective July 1. He will replace A.G. Lafley ’69, who has served as chair of the Board of Trustees since 2008. George F. (Jeff) Little II ’71 will continue as the board’s vice chair.

Alison Brackenbury of the Poetry Review comments on the achievement of Bogin's most recent work, "Nina Bogin writes beautiful, spare, exemplary poems from which everything unnecessary is quietly stripped away. (…) Her poetry, clear and direct, is never narrowly personal. The 'lost hare' is 'bedded down in the thoughts/ and dreams I hoarded there.'  Each listener can add experience to that hoard. Nina Bogin's poetry is its own place, but her particular patch of poetic earth can also become her readers' country."

With a long-standing attraction to the fashion industry, Susan Effler ’12 has been cultivating an interest in retail for years. Effler, a May graduate, just began a new full-time position at Saks 5th Avenue, a luxury fashion retailer based in midtown Manhattan.
