Asad Javed ’16 is working this summer through an Emerson Grant to transpose the Molière classic Tartuffe into a number of new settings, in a project titled “Unholy Vanities and Holy Prose: A Reimagination of Moliere's Tartuffe through Costume Design.” Javed, a French and  interdisciplinary studies (film) double major, is undertaking this project in creative collaboration with Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre Andrew Holland.

The Hamilton College F.I.L.M. (Forum on Image and Language in Motion) spring 2015 series concludes on May 3, at 2 p.m., when filmmaker James Benning presents his performance piece “Two Cabins.” The event takes place in Bradford Auditorium in the Kirner-Johnson Building, and is free and open to the public.

American documentary filmmaker and Harvard University professor Ross McElwee will present his most recent film, Photographic Memory, on Sunday, April 26, at 2 p.m., in Bradford Auditorium in the Kirner-Johnson Building. McElwee’s film is part of the spring F.I.L.M. (Forum on Image and Language in Motion) series at Hamilton College and is free and open to public.

The Hamilton College F.I.L.M. (Forum on Image and Language in Motion) series continues on Sunday, April 19, with James Benning’s “California Trilogy,” a trio of environmentally aware feature films about California. The cine-marathon begins at 2 p.m. in Bradford Auditorium in the Kirner-Johnson Building. This and all F.I.L.M. events are free and open to the public.

Visiting Professor of Art History Scott MacDonald completed his obligation as a 2011 Academy Film Scholar on March 18 with a lecture and film screening at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Hollywood.

The Hamilton College F.I.L.M. series will feature Magician: The Astonishing Life and Work of Orson Welles with an appearance by director Chuck Workman, on Sunday, March 8, at 2 p.m., in KJ's Bradford Auditorium. This and all F.I.L.M. events are free and open to the public.

The spring F.I.L.M. (Forum on Image and Language in Motion) series opens on Sunday, March 1, with an interactive performance with media artist/explorer Jennifer Proctor. All F.I.L.M. screenings will take place at 2 p.m. in Bradford Auditorium, KJ, and are free and open to the public.

Visiting Professor of Art History Scott MacDonald delivered the annual Rajiv Vaidya Film Lecture on Dec. 7 at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. He spoke on the New York Film Society Cinema 16 and presented a program that demonstrated the programming strategy developed by Amos Vogel at Cinema 16 between 1947 and 1963 – a strategy that expanded the film culture of New York City and the nation.

Visiting Professor of Art History Scott MacDonald recently published a book titled Avant-Doc: Intersections of Documentary and Avant-Garde Cinema.

Hamilton’s F.I.L.M. series will present Gasland II, directed by Josh Fox, on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m., in the Kirner-Johnson Building’s Bradford Auditorium. Fox will be present and will talk about his film following the screening. The event is free and open to the public.
