  • After its victory at the Cornell Invitational, Hamilton’s Mock Trial team once again demonstrated its strength with a 5th place finish at their regional qualifier in Buffalo on Feb. 23-24. Compiling a record of 5-3, the team performed well enough to advance to the Opening Round Championship Series of the American Mock Trial Association’s (AMTA) national tournament.

  • Hamilton sent a delegation of three students (Taylor Davis ‘15, Ellie Fausold ’13 and Lauren Howe’13) to the Real Food Challenge National Summit at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore on Feb. 15-17.  Real Food Challenge (RFC) is both a network of students and a national campaign to increase the procurement of “real food” on college and university campuses across the country.

  • Twelve Hamilton seniors were elected on Feb. 19 to the Epsilon chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest honor society. The inductees are Emily Anderson, Sarah Bither, Eryn Boyce, Lauren Howe, Sunyoung Hwang, Agne Jakubauskaite, Danielle Lashley, Jonathan Piskor, Akritee Shrestha, Erin Sullivan, Kathleen Vaughan and Gordon Wilkins.

  • Kimberly Bogardus ’14, Leah Cairns ’13, Lennox Chitsike ’13 and Akritee Shrestha ’13 presented posters at the 57th Annual Biophysical Society Meeting that took place Feb. 2-6 in Philadelphia. They presented results obtained in the research laboratory of Associate Professor of Chemistry Myriam Cotten. The presentations were part of sessions on “Membrane Active Peptides and Toxins.”

  • Associate Professor of Psychology Jen Borton and five students attended the annual conference of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology in New Orleans, Jan. 17-21. The students had conducted research with Borton in 2011 or 2012 and presented posters of their work.

  • Three students were inducted into Lambda Pi Eta, the national communication honor society, at the conclusion of the fall 2012 semester. The new members are Alex Gioia ’14, Megan McCareins ’14 and Ben Yudysky ’14. They join current member and chapter president Laurie Sadove ’13.

  • Two poems by Marty Cain ’13 were accepted by [PANK] Magazine and are slated to appear in the March 2013 online issue, including audio recordings of Cain reading the poems. The magazine will also be publishing an interview with Cain on its website.

  • On Dec. 15, students from the Hamilton College Junior in France (HCJYF) program visited several covered passages, or arcades, in the heart of Paris.
