  • Professor of English and Creative Writing  Doran Larson has edited a new book Fourth City: Essays from the Prison in America (Michigan State University Press). The book contains 71 essays written by prisoners from across the U.S.

  • The Hamilton College Department of Music presented the annual Choir Musical on  Feb. 7-9, in Wellin Hall. The musical, Candide,  (National Theatre Version) features music by Leonard Bernstein, with book adapted from Voltaire by Hugh Wheeler in a New Version by John Caird.

  • Back in 2001 the Hamilton Alumni Association under President George Baker '74 brainstormed the idea of coast-to-coast gatherings held in conjunction with Alexander Hamilton’s January 11 birthday.  In January 2002, eight alumni regions hosted celebrations for GOLD Group members.  By 2007 the number of gatherings had more than tripled and expanded to include Hamilton alumni, parents and friends. Now in 2014 a record 40 parties were held and the celebrations have gone global, with gatherings in London, Tokyo and Beijing, in addition to U.S. cities from Albany, N.Y., to L.A. and points in between.

  • Many Americans might find the Affordable Care Act difficult to understand, and some may feel daunted by the task of enrolling in health insurance under the new law, but a group of Hamilton College students is helping make the process easier for the surrounding community.

  • Some 120 students and community members recently spent the day working on their mojo—but there wasn’t much voodoo or magic involved. Instead, the group participated in the third iteration of the Career Center’s Interview Mojo program, which is aimed at helping students increase their facility with and confidence in professional interviews.

  • The Career Center’s 4th round of HamiltonExplore provided 120 underclassmen the opportunity to explore career interests during winter break.  The shadowing program is designed to assist sophomore students with career exploration and decision making by offering the opportunity to “shadow” (observe) a Hamilton alumnus/a or parent in the workplace for a day or part of a day.

  • Former U.S. Ambassador Prudence Bushnell dreamed of creating a leadership program for college-age students, but was not convinced it was possible. That is, until she came to the Hill as the visiting Linowitz professor and spent a semester with Hamilton students.

  • A strong advocate for women on campus and a leader in the community, Ellie Wertimer extended friendship and hospitality to generations of students and alumni.

  • Hamilton College President Joan Hinde Stewart attended an all-day summit on Thursday, Jan. 16, hosted by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama in Washington.  Note: Following this meeting, President Stewart discussed her observations on Albany public radio station WAMC-FM  and Utica station WIBX-AM.
