The Central NY Library Resources Council (CLRC) recently awarded Hamilton funding to complete the digitization of the Beinecke Lesser Antilles manuscripts, part of the Burke Library’s Special Collections. The Beinecke Collection includes rare original documents, maps, plantation reports and correspondence, along with oil paintings and watercolors.

Christian Goodwillie, director and curator of Special Collections and Archives in Burke Library, recently published “Baseball, Beards, Bands, and the Babes: Michigan’s House of David Religious Community” in Ephemera Journal, the quarterly publication of the Ephemera Society of America.

Vice President for Libraries and Information Technology David Smallen P’97 was honored as the 2016 Distinguished Service Award recipient by Hamilton’s Alumni Association. Alumni Association President Gordon Kaye ’74 presented the award on April 8 during the Alumni Council’s Recognition dinner.

“It’s a Google and two clicks to get to the [Bon Appétit] menu,” Chris Lee ’16 noted, “and that’s just annoying.” Lee, a computer science major, isn’t being lazy; he understands that in the age of smartphones, convenience often determines usefulness. With this in mind, Hamilton App, available on both the App Store and the Play Store, aims to “centralize information to one useful app for the benefit of students, alumni, faculty and staff.”

Director of Research and Instruction Services Lisa Forrest recently published an article in College & Research Libraries News (C&RL News). “Going Analog and Getting Artsy: Programming in the Academic Library” highlighted novel ways that Hamilton’s librarians are supporting the college’s educational goals through programming.
