The Wellin Museum of Art exhibition René Treviño: Stab of Guilt, which runs through June 9, offers an exuberant selection of works with wide-ranging themes that illuminate the artist’s colorful and complex aesthetic. Included among the new work on display are 20 mixed-media collages that incorporate imagery from 19th-century star charts made by C.H.F. Peters, Hamilton’s first professor of astronomy.

Alexandra (Allie) Gale ’19 has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Brazil. A world politics major with a focus in Latin America, Gale was a Rotary Youth Exchange student in Joao Pinheiro, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, in 2014-15.

Natasha Espinosa ’18 went into her first year at Hamilton with the goal of taking full advantage of the open curriculum. For Espinosa, this meant exploring her long-held interest in and personal connection to Latin America.

A personal interest drew Daniel Reyes ’17 to his first Latin American studies course, and through it he discovered an expansive academic landscape.

David Shirk, director of the Justice in Mexico Project, will present a lecture titled “The Drug War in Mexico” on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m., in the Bradford Auditorium, Kirner-Johnson Building. The lecture is sponsored by the Latin American Studies Department and is free and open to the public.

Adriana Kugler, professor at the McCourt School of Public Policy and vice-provost for faculty at Georgetown University, will deliver a lecture titled “The Benefits and Cost of Trade Openness for Latin America” on Thursday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m., in the Kennedy Auditorium, Taylor Science Center. The talk is free and open to the public.

Author and UCLA Professor David Shorter will present a lecture, “Sex, Power, and Healing: Considering an Indigenous Context,” on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 4:10 p.m., in the Red Pit, Kirner-Johnson Building. The lecture is free and open to the public.
