Michael Lubelczyk ’17 has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Germany. A history major minoring in German, he studied at Eberhard-Karls Universität Tübingen, Germany, in 2016.

The Hamilton College Theatre Department announces the spring production, Antigonick, Anne Carson’s stunning translation of Sophokles’ luminous and disturbing tragedy, given entirely fresh language and new life. Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer directs the play, modern retelling of the Greek tragedy set in the Oval Office 2017, and explores kakocracy - rule or government by the worst of the people, authoritarianism, misogyny, hubris.

Professor of History Lisa Trivedi was recently named the winner of the Van J. Symons Distinguished Service Award by ASIANetwork, a consortium of 165 liberal arts colleges with programs in Asian Studies.

The New York City program took a field trip to NYU’s Bobst Library Fales special collections. NYU is home to the Marion Nestle Food Studies Collection, an expansive array of publications documenting the 19th and 20th century evolution of food practices in America, especially New York City.

Transgender rights advocate, TV host and author Janet Mock shed light on the importance of transgender inclusivity through a moderated discussion on April 11. Hosted by the Rainbow Alliance with moderator Professor Shelley Haley, the discussion focused on Mock’s experiences as a transgender woman and her thoughts on transgender representation in society.

Opportunity Programs hosted its 11th annual Parents’ Connected Day on April 8. A highlight of the event was presentation of the Through the Doors of Opportunity award to Josie Collier ’97, P’14, which recognizes alumni who choose to give back to their communities, not only in word, but in deed.

“I’m not supposed to be standing here today—I’m supposed to be dead and buried in Arlington,” Matt Zeller ’04 told members of the Hamilton community who attended his talk, “No One Left Behind: A Bond Forged in Combat.”

Vice President and Dean of Students Nancy Thompson was honored as the 2017 Distinguished Service Award recipient by Hamilton’s Alumni Association. Alumni Association President Gordon Kaye ’74, P ’05 presented the award on April 7 during the Alumni Council’s Recognition dinner.

Three Hamilton students who developed a Home Energy Assessment Tool (H.E.A.T.) won the grand prize at the eighth annual Pitch Competition. The team of Anna Mowat ’18, Ash Kahn ’17 and Leo Kell ’17 generated an algorithm, accessible by smartphone app, with a 90% accuracy rate. The formula helps homeowners reduce their energy bill without hiring inspectors.
