Assistant Professor of Music Alex Bádue recently presented “The Lady in the Tutti Frutti Hat at Home: The Carmen Miranda Revival in Brazil” at the Great American Songbook conference in Indiana. The talk was part of a session on “Classical Hollywood in Later Contexts.”
The international conference, titled “StageStruck! 5: Nostalgia and the Hollywood Musical,” was hosted with the University of Sheffield. It focused on Hollywood musicals as a vehicle for nostalgia, revealing “the pains and pleasures of looking backwards in time through song.”
