Valeria Dani, visiting assistant professor of Italian Studies, has had her book-length translation of Grant Farred’s What’s My Name? published in Italy by Quodlibet.
This theoretical work discusses and expands the Gramscian definition of the organic intellectual by redefining the traditional paradigms of cultural and political opposition within the Black radical tradition. In transcending the boundaries and hierarchies of hegemonic knowledge, Come mi chiamo? introduces Italian readers to the novel figure of the “vernacular intellectual” – one who operates at the margins of traditional academic spaces and uses sport, music, activism, and cultural theory as effective tools of resistance.
