Hamilton recently hosted the Liberal Arts Colleges Development Economics Conference (LACDEV) on campus. The event was organized by Associate Professor of Economics Emily Conover.
A group of 30 development economists from peer liberal arts institutions and graduate students interested in liberal arts schools presented and discussed their research papers.
Michael Kremer, the Gates Professor of Developing Societies in the Department of Economics at Harvard University, was keynote speaker. Kremer’s recent research examines education, health, water, and agriculture in developing countries.
Four sessions were held on the topics of human capital/employment, agriculture/Africa, gender/violence, and experimental. Attendees also took part in a teaching panel on using data in development economic courses.
This was the fifth LACDEV conference, which takes place annually and rotates among liberal arts colleges. Its mission is to bring together researchers from liberal arts institutions to form a close network in the field of development economics.
