Nadya Bair.

Assistant Professor of Art History Nadya Bair is one of 15 scholars awarded a 2025-2026 fellowship by the Frankel Institute of Jewish Studies at the University of Michigan.  She will use her residency to complete her book on the International Center of Photography and its founder Cornell Capa.

Myth Maker: Cornell Capa and the Reinvention of Documentary at the International Center of Photography (ICP) is Bair’s second book. Started in 2020, the project was also awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship in 2023-24.

The Frankel Institute was established in 2005, with financial support from the Jean and Samuel Frankel Jewish Heritage Foundation. It is described as providing “annual fellowships for scholars and artists from around the world to conduct research in relation to a given theme, [and] by combining intellectual autonomy with the ideal of a scholarly community, it offers global leadership in Jewish Studies.” The theme of the 2025-26 academic year residency is “Jews and Media.”
