Theresa Lopez, the Chauncey Truax Postdoctoral Fellow in Philosophy, has been selected as an NEH Summer Scholar from a national applicant pool to attend one of 23 seminars and institutes supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).

The Endowment is a federal agency that, each summer, supports these enrichment opportunities at colleges, universities, and cultural institutions, so that faculty can work in collaboration and study with other experts in humanities disciplines. Lopez will participate in the summer institute titled "Moral Psychology and Education: Putting the Humanities to Work."

The four-week program will be held at Grand Valley State University.  The Institute will integrate the work of historical philosophers such as Hume, Smith, and Dewey with current theoretical and empirical work in moral psychology to re-examine the role, function, and importance of the humanities for moral development and education.

At Hamilton, Lopez has taught a range of courses in ethics, including biomedical ethics, evolution and morality, and moral psychology.

Help us provide an accessible education, offer innovative resources and programs, and foster intellectual exploration.
