Jesse Weiner.
Associate Professor of Classics Jesse Weiner recently attended the annual meeting of the Classical Association of the Atlantic States, in Wilmington, Del. Weiner serves as Eastern New York’s regional director for the organization. At the conference, he chaired a workshop he organized on “Queering the Past(s),” an international project housed at Hamilton, and led by Hamilton Professor Emerita Nancy Rabinowitz.

Queering the Past(s) is dedicated to developing free and open access pedagogical materials for teaching topics relevant to LGBTQ+ studies and materials from ancient Mediterranean cultures. In this, Rabinowitz and Weiner were joined by two Hamilton students working on the project, Zo Clarke ’27 and Connor Havelka ’28, who presented their work on the developing platform.

Weiner also co-presided over a panel on “Using the Past: Creating in the Present from the Past,” which brought together papers on the reception of antiquity in later Medieval and Renaissance historiography.

Finally, Hamilton Professor Emerita Barbara Gold received the prestigious Barbara F. McManus Leadership Award.
