Professor of Music Michael “Doc” Woods received an award from the ASCAPLUS Awards Program sponsored by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). According to ASCAP, the award program provides recognition and a cash award “for writer members whose catalogs have prestige value for which they would not otherwise be compensated.”
Woods was also recently interviewed by Utica’s Observer-Dispatch. In “Q&A With Michael ‘Doc’ Woods,” he spoke about his recent works and upcoming projects. When asked about how he’d like his music to influence his audience, Woods said, “My goal in reaching an audience is to cause an interpersonal level of insight to take place between the title, the themes and the great soloists when a new work is played. I want people to say: ‘I heard that first at Hamilton College back in 2010.’”
Woods will premiere his new works in Vision of Sound on April 29, 2011, at Plymouth Church in Syracuse.
