Medical & Accommodation Pre-Assignment Housing
Examples of Possible Pre-Assigns
- Medical conditions that require a private or semi-private bathroom
- Short or long term circumstances in which students need to be on the first floor of a building (i.e.- physical disability or surgery that impedes one’s ability to walk up stairs)
- Any medical condition that requires temperature control of one’s room
Process and Timeline
Application
The application is available online during the open application period. Each student must complete their portion of the application, and share the Clinician portion with their treating physician to be completed by them. Requests submitted for religious accommodations require a letter from the student and from the religious leader/or other appropriate authority that can comment specifically on the accommodation being requested and the reason it is necessary.
Applications for the 24-25 academic year are due in their entirety by February 25, 2024. Applications will be accepted after this date. However, consideration takes time and the Committee cannot guarantee completion of the process prior to housing selection if applications are late.
***Please provide as much detail as possible on your application***
Request Approval or Denial
Once all applications have been received, a confidential committee of campus administrators with various relevant areas of expertise will determine if each student’s request is necessary and appropriate. If the request is accepted, the student will be offered one option for housing. If the option is not accepted by the student, the student will participate in the housing selection process to select their housing. The decision of the committee is final.
**NOTE: Submitting a request does not guarantee approval for pre-assignment.
Room Selection
If a student’s request is approved, they will be offered one housing option based on the medical needs and/or accommodations noted in the application and agreed upon by the committee. Upon the student’s notification of acceptance and housing offer, the student will be given a deadline to notify the Office of Community Living if they will accept or decline. Once an offer is accepted, it can not be changed and the student waives their right to participate in any other housing selection process.
If a student fails to accept a housing offer by the deadline, that student will be required to participate in Housing Selection and will forgo any and all medical pre-assign offers.
