At 10 a.m., the cast and crew of The Tempest began rehearsing. They shifted between dissecting Shakespeare’s text, blocking scenes, experimenting with movement, and figuring out how to bring a century old story to life in a barn.

For Paige Hescock ’27, every day as a newspaper reporter brings a new story to tell. This summer, Hescock is interning as a news reporter at the Daily Sentinel in Rome, N.Y., where she covers local news, interviews community members, photographs events, and writes stories for both print and online publication. From tracking down sources over the phone to covering events in person, the internship has immersed her in the fast-paced world of daily journalism.

For Olivia Piersall ’27, history is not simply confined to textbooks. This summer, she’s helping to preserve one of the nation’s most significant historical archives at the world’s largest library. Piersall is serving as a junior fellow in the Serial and Government Publications Division at the Library of Congress, where she is processing the library’s 9/11 newspaper collection.

For Evan Fernando ’29, writing has never been simply about getting published. It has been a way to understand himself, advocate for others, and explore the issues that matter most to him.

Each year, hundreds of nonprofits across the region come together for Mohawk Valley Gives, a 24-hour fundraising campaign that raises millions of dollars for local organizations. This summer, Sydney Stern ’28 is helping with that effort while gaining a new perspective on the community surrounding Hamilton.

Sofia Santana ’26 came to Hamilton from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., with a plan. Now a senior, she has accomplished many of her goals, but her path has taken some unexpected — and exciting — turns.

Jampel Payldon ’27 hails from the Kingdom of Bhutan, a small nation nestled in the Himalayas. This summer, Payldon had the opportunity to represent her country on the world stage as an intern at the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the United Nations.

As the United States prepares to celebrate its 250th birthday, one Hamilton College student is getting intimately acquainted with our nation’s deep and storied history. Lily Watts ’26 spent her summer on the National Mall working as a curatorial exhibition development intern at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. By sifting through troves of ancient documents and designing object display layouts, Watts reanimated the past two-and-a-half centuries of American life in preparation for 2026’s celebration.

In the world of Hollywood, the road from script to production is a long one. It starts with the development team that reads the scripts, hears the pitches, and ultimately decides whether a script has the potential to be a successful show. Then, it’s their job to get the network to see that vision. Zoe Neely ’25 had the opportunity recently to step into this world.
