Speakers at Hamilton this fall have reflected a Who’s Who of leaders in many fields, including alumni who returned to campus to share their expertise. Organizations and classes on the Hill have been fortunate to draw from the wealth of experience and knowledge of Hamilton alumni.

The Hamilton community is mourning Alexander Paganelli ’12, who died on Dec. 19 as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident near his home outside Boston.

Associate Professor of Music Heather Buchman performed with the trombone section of the Rochester Philharmonic in a trombone quartet and organ holiday concert on Dec. 12. The program, held at the United Church of Phelps (N.Y.), included works by Gabrieli as well as arrangements of both traditional and contemporary holiday music.

The Levitt Center under the umbrella of Rust to Green, Utica, has received a grant for $21,200 from the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Inc., to support a research group to study the refugee population in Utica and its unique potential to be a driver of economic development. Hamilton President Joan Hinde Stewart accepted a check on behalf of the College on Dec. 14 at the Green Century Building in downtown Utica.

Students from the Hamilton Mathletics team participated on Dec. 4 in the nationwide William Lowell Putnam mathematics competition. With 13 students taking part, it was one of the strongest turnouts in Hamilton's history.

The Brass Ensemble performed its annual last-day-of-class moveable concert on Dec. 10. The 12-piece ensemble, led by Heather Buchman, associate professor of music and director of the orchestra, spread some musical holiday cheer at McEwen, the KJ Atrium, Commons and the Science Atrium.

Six Hamilton students spent the fall semester on the New York State Independent College Consortium for Study in India (NYSICCSI) program. Katie Barth ’12, Katherine Costa ’12, Beth Foster ’12, Kate Harloe ’12, Elsie Love ’12 and Charlotte Munson ’11 are part of the group, led this semester by faculty director Hamilton Associate Professor of History Lisa Trivedi and assistant director Hamilton alumnus Jack Reigeluth '07. The students traveled throughout northern India, took academic courses and conducted various independent fieldwork research projects.

Geosciences major Theresa Allinger ’11 recently traveled to Spain to sample corals collected from the Weddell Sea for geochemical analysis.

An article co-authored by Eugene Domack, the Joel W. Johnson Family Professor of Geosciences, has been published in a special issue of Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimtology, Palaeoecology (Palaeo3) .

“Shakespeare’s Dolphin, Dumbo’s Feather, and Other Red Herrings: Some Thoughts on Intention and Meaning,” by Professor of Comparative Literature Peter J. Rabinowitz, has been published in Style as part of a cluster of articles devoted to Shakespeare’s intentions.
