  • Hamilton College Dean of Faculty Patrick Reynolds announced the promotion of three Hamilton faculty members to the rank of professor. Jennifer Borton, psychology; Sally Cockburn, mathematics; and Julio Videras, economics, were promoted effective Oct. 11.

  • Hamilton women’s ice hockey, men’s ice hockey and men’s basketball team members were among participants in this year’s AK5K run and walk on Oct.12 in New Hartford, N.Y.  Representing the Hamilton community were 56 students, three parents and a sibling who participated with 900 runners and walkers, with 200 volunteers and about 500 spectators cheering them on.

  • With the gleaming new Kevin and Karen Kennedy Center for Theatre and the Studio Arts as its centerpiece, the combined Fallcoming and Family Weekend celebrated the arts over three days of glorious Central New York autumn weather.

  • Former Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star and Emmy Award-winning broadcaster Harold Reynolds will serve as moderator at the Hamilton College Great Names event featuring captain and shortstop Derek Jeter, on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 7:30 p.m., in the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House. Jeter will participate in a question-and-answer format interview as the next guest in Hamilton’s Sacerdote Great Names Series.

  • Dean of Faculty Patrick D. Reynolds announced the appointment of four of Hamilton’s most outstanding teacher-scholars to endowed chairs. Professor of Philosophy A. Todd Franklin, Professor of Biology Jinnie M. Garrett, Professor of  Environmental Studies Todd W. Rayne and Professor of History Thomas A. Wilson were appointed, effective July 1.

  • Historical geographer Professor Haim Goren of Israel will present the Couper Phi Beta Kappa Library Lecture at Hamilton College on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 4:10 p.m., in the Red Pit, KJ.  Goren will speak on “Edward Robinson: ‘Father of the Scientific Study of the Holy Land.’”  Robinson is an alumnus of Hamilton’s class of 1816. The lecture is free and open to the public.

  • Mary L. Bonauto ’83 H’05, a leader of the campaign for same-sex marriage and LGBT rights, is among 21 recipients of a 2014 MacArthur Foundation Fellowship. She is an attorney with Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders (GLAD) in Boston. Bonauto received an honorary degree from Hamilton in 2005.
