Academic achievement prizes, prize scholarships and other recognition of student accomplishments were awarded at Hamilton’s 63rd annual Class & Charter Day convocation on Monday, May 13, in the Chapel. Among the top prizes Nicholas Solano ’14 was awarded the Milton F. Fillius Jr. /Joseph Drown Prize Scholarship, and Susannah Parkin ’13 was named the recipient of the James Soper Merrill Prize.

Hamilton College’s highest awards for teaching were presented to three faculty members during the annual Class & Charter Day ceremony on May 13. Professor of Music Lydia Hamessley, Assistant Professor of Religious Studies Abhishek Amar and Rob Knight, assistant professor of art, received awards. Assistant Professor of Government Ted Lehmann was named the recipient of Student Assembly’s Sidney Wertimer Award.

Six Hamilton faculty members were recognized for their research and creative successes with the Dean’s Scholarly Achievement Awards, presented by Dean of Faculty Patrick Reynolds during Class & Charter Day on May 13. The awards recognize individual accomplishment but reflect a richness and depth of scholarship and creative activity across the entire faculty.

Hamilton College’s Class & Charter Day celebration, an annual convocation recognizing student and faculty excellence during the preceding academic year, will take place on Monday, May 13, at 4:15 p.m., in the College Chapel.

Alan Cafruny, the Henry Platt Bristol Professor of International Affairs, been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow during the 2013-14 academic year.

Mia L. Falzarano ’13 has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Turkey. A psychology major at Hamilton, she studied in Greece through Arcadia University during the 2011 fall semester.

Seven Hamilton students are winding up their semester volunteering at Tradewinds Education Center of Upstate Cerebral Palsy, which serves students with behavioral and developmental disabilities.

Linda Zhang ’13 has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Russia.  A Russian studies and comparative literature major, she spent the 2011 summer and fall semesters studying at Bard-Smolny College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in St. Petersburg and Yaroslavl' Pedagogical State University.

Professor of English Onno Oerlemans was the top individual finisher, Lauren King ’16 was the top female individual, and team “Adirondack Adventure”  (Director of Outdoor Leadership Andrew Jillings, Will Robertson ’14 and Marcos Sotelo ’15), won the relay in the 10th annual HamTrek Triathlon on May 3.

Holi, an Indian festival of colors, was celebrated for the first time at Hamilton on May 4.  It marks the beginning of spring, commemorates various Hindu traditions and is time of disregarding social norms and indulging in general fun with family and friends. The throwing of colored powder transcends all barriers of discrimination so that everyone looks the same and universal unity is reaffirmed.
