Michael J. Bourbeau, a recent 2011 graduate, has been selected to have his thesis film (featuring “Blue & Peanut") as part of “What’s Up, Doc? The Animation Art of Chuck Jones,” a six year tour exhibiting work by Chuck Jones, creator of Bugs Bunny, Wile E. Coyote, The Road Runner, Daffy Duck, The Grinch, and many other wonderful cartoons. The tour begins in July at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, NYC. It is in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity.

The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press will be honoring Bruce W. Sanford ’67 with a 2014 First Amendment Award on May 19 at The Pierre in New York City. Along with four other leaders in journalism and media law, Sanford will be recognized for his work at the forefront of American media law and as one of the most accomplished press lawyers in the nation. The Washington D.C. attorney has represented major media outlets including television networks, newspapers, book publishers, and such authors as Bill Clinton, Barbara Bush, and John Grisham.

A Wall Street Journal article that addressed changes in corporate internship programs included comments by Career Center Assistant Vice President Mary Evans as well as references to Hamilton’s Career Center. Published on April 23, “Colleges, Employers Rethink Internship Policies” reported that the career center “won't post openings for unpaid positions from companies that they know also offer paid internships.”

Hamilton College will name its theatre and studio arts building for Kevin and Karen Kennedy in recognition of their lifetime giving to the college, including $10 million for the new project. They are the lead donors to the $46.8 million building that is located directly across College Hill Road from the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art, which opened in 2012.

Six months ago, Samuel Matlick ’17 competed with more than 50 other current students and recent graduates in Hamilton’s fourth annual Pitch Competition. His win there encouraged him to forge ahead, hoping to bring his idea to fruition. A week ago, he presented his plan at a regional business plan competition hosted by SUNY Institute of Technology and he walked away a winner again.

Daniel Chambliss, the Eugene M. Tobin Distinguished Professor of Sociology, was interviewed for a feature in the April 13 issue of The New York Times Education Life section titled “What Makes a Positive College Experience?” The article offered a glimpse of the extensive results from Chambliss’ decade-long, Mellon-funded student study culminating in the newly published How College Works. Co-authored with Chambliss’ former student and current University of Chicago doctoral student Christopher Takacs ’05, the book was released by Harvard University Press in March.

Genevieve Caffrey ’17 and Caroline Kreidberg ’17 recently helped organize the first Animal Rescue Law Forum for Hamilton parent Kevan Cleary P’12. It was hosted by the New York County Lawyers Association. The students set up the social media, press releases, phone calls and emails to interested parties, handled the replies and follow up and worked the night of the event.

Catherine Brown, senior director of visual communications in Hamilton’s Communications Department, was honored as the 2014 Distinguished Service Award recipient by Hamilton’s Alumni Association. John Hadity ’83, president of the Alumni Association, presented the award on April 4 during the Alumni Council’s Recognition dinner.
