  • The legacy of Kirkland College at Hamilton includes a strong tradition of creativity, feminism and a penchant for the arts. Katherine Bickmore ’15 seems to embody that legacy. An aspiring artist, Bickmore is using this summer to further develop her artistic skills and examine the portrayal of women in art from the mid-19th century to present day. In her Emerson Foundation Project, “The Degeneration, Deterioration, and Decay of Society: A Critique of the Femme Fatale in Art,” she is creating a series of paintings that examine the depiction of women in art as dark and seductive beings.

  • Six members of the Hamilton faculty were recognized for their research and creative successes with the Dean’s Scholarly Achievement Awards, presented by Dean of Faculty Patrick Reynolds at Class & Charter Day on Friday, May 4. The Awards recognize individual accomplishments, but reflect a richness and depth of scholarship and creative activity across the entire faculty.  The awards were made in three categories: Career Achievement, Early Career Achievement and Notable Year Achievement.

  • In conjunction with Kevin Kennedy Professor of Art Katharine Kuharic’s exhibition at P.P.O.W Gallery in New York City, poets Linda Norton, Wayne Koestenbaum and Eileen Myles will read from their work tonight (Nov. 1) at 6:30 p.m. Kuharic’s solo exhibition is titled Pound of Flesh and will be on display through Nov. 12 at P.P.O.W., located at 535 West 22nd Street.
