  • On October 5, senior creative writing majors Seiya Asada-Johnson, Martin Cain, Anna Paikert and Cecelie Pikus traveled to New York City to attend the 13th annual New Yorker Festival with Professors of Creative Writing Doran Larson and Jane Springer.

  • Taking with them lessons learned and inspiration from the recent Social Entrepreneurship panel discussion at Hamilton, three students – Nicholas Solano ’14, Eren Shultz ’15 and Evan Warnock ’14 – headed to Cambridge to attend Harvard’s 2012 Igniting Social Innovation Conference on Oct. 6.

  • On Oct. 11, the students of Hamilton’s Black and Latino/a Student Union (BLSU) traveled to New York City during Fall Break for a cultural trip. The group visited important locations known for their cultural, artistic or historical value. Among stops were a historical tour of Harlem, the national 9/11 Memorial & Museum, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Times Square, and the Battery Park area where the Hamilton College NYC Program apartments are located.

  • Ten Hamilton seniors were elected to the Epsilon chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest honor society, at  the October meeting. The inductees are Kiernan Acquisto, Emily Archer, Michael Breslin, Cooper Creagan, Catherine Crone, Noah Ford, Marta  Johnson, Lindsay Kramer, Yonghyun Song  and Harrison Swan.

  • The evening of Sept. 19 was a fine one for students on the Program in New York.  The group was treated to dinner at Gabriel’s, followed by a performance at the New York Philharmonic, all sponsored by alumnus Kevin Kennedy ’7o and his wife Karen.

  • The 11th annual Fall Fest held on the Clinton Village Green on Oct. 21 provided an afternoon of entertainment, activities and food for the Hamilton community and Clinton residents. Sponsored by Hamilton's Student Assembly, the event featured face-painting, a soccer clinic and entertainment by a capella groups.

  • Whether it’s through a varsity sport, a cultural diversity club or a service organization, Hamilton students devote both time and energy throughout the year to getting involved in their community. Peter Maher ’13 is no exception and has a unique story to tell. Over the past two years, he has spent more than 30 hours a week interning with the police department in the nearby city of Rome, N.Y.

  • On Saturday, Sept. 22, the 15 students participating in the New York City Program, along with director Professor of Economics Chris Georges and his wife Sarah, volunteered at the Bowery Mission.

  • For the 29th year in a row, the ecology class (Bio. 237) went up Whiteface Mountain to look at how and why the composition and structure of the forest changes with elevation. The 23 students on the Oct. 7 trip were led by Associate Professor of Biology Bill Pfitsch and Ernest Williams, the William R. Kenan Professor of Biology.

  • Bipartisanship is generally in short supply in Washington.  However, Hamilton’s Program in Washington students got a glimpse of it at a briefing at the American Enterprise Institute on September 19.  Senators Ron Wyden (D, Oregon) and Marco Rubio (R, Florida) discussed a bill they had introduced, the Student Right to Know Before You Go Act.
