  • The most recent poll released by the Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center was referenced in a New York Times opinion piece titled “Justin Bieber for President” which appeared on Saturday, August 14. The survey of high school students’ attitudes toward the U.S. economy and the performance of President Obama revealed significant differences in attitudes on both issues between African-American and white teens.

  • Among the myriad problems facing Rwanda, population control is one of the most urgent. A 2000 Demographic and Health Survey found that only 4 percent of women in Rwanda were using contraception. This low percentage gives rise to several problems, including high infant and mother death rates. With his summer Levitt Fellowship research, Steve Mello ’11 is examining data from two demographic and health surveys to see whether an increase in contraception leads to healthier children.

  • Associate Professor of Economics Stephen Wu is joining the editorial board of the International Journal of Wellbeing. This is a blind peer-reviewed journal that publishes timely original high-quality scholarly articles and book reviews focused on scientific and philosophical investigations into wellbeing.
