The Molecular Education and Research Consortium in Undergraduate computational chemistRY (MERCURY) recently announced the receipt of $225,000 through the National Science Foundation’s Major Research Instrumentation (NSF-MRI) program.

Professor of Art Katharine Kuharic will be featured as the inaugural artist when New York’s P.P.O.W Gallery opens an expanded space on Friday, Oct. 28. A reception is planned from 6-8 p.m., at P.P.O.W’s new sixth floor space.

At Haverford College’s “Black Squirrel Invitational,” on Oct. 22-23, Hamilton Mock Trial celebrated a number of firsts: the first tournament of the year, the first competition for new members (Bryce Murdick ’20, and Michael Wang ’19), and the first tournament where Hamilton’s Mock Trial program competed with two teams.

Flying brooms, flourishing wands and conjuring of various spells were seen throughout Benedict Hall this past weekend as more than 60 students participated in the 16th annual “Hogwarts at Hamilton” performances on Oct. 21 and Oct. 22. These shows, featuring both family-friendly and adult versions, functioned as fundraisers for the Kirkland Library as well as a way for youngsters, students and the Hamilton community to enjoy the October spirit.

Assistant Professor of Literature and Creative Writing Pavitra Sundar presented "Voice, Body and a Sexy ‘Didi’” at an international conference on “Sound and South Asia” at the University of Michigan Oct. 7-8.

Art Collective organized the pop-up gallery Predominantly White Spaces on Oct. 21-23. This gallery was directed and curated by Michy Woodward ’17 and coordinated by Kenneth Lopez ’17. It is a collaborative project among student artists of color, Alex Akiwumi ’19, Merisa Dion ’17, Mimi Do ’17, Anne Homans ’19, Ana Castro Reynoso ‘17, Djinnie Timoleon ’17, Katherine Wang ’17 and Anjanae Williams ’18.

During the recent Fallcoming and Family Weekend, the Hamilton Microfinance Group hosted its third annual “Guess the Weight: Giant Pumpkin Challenge.” For $1, people could guess the weight of the giant pumpkin and watermelon. They weighed 1,235 pounds and 139.5 pounds, respectively.

Visiting Professor of Art History Scott MacDonald presented “Taking Time to Look: The Landscape Films of Peter Hutton” at the Thomas Cole National Historic Site in Catskill, N.Y., on Oct. 9.

In his Oct. 19 lecture titled “Conservation without Regulation” Case Western University Professor Jonathan Adler proposed that our nation’s current approach to environmental policy is ineffective.
