  • Louisiana State University Press has published Rebels on the Border: Civil War, Emancipation, and the Reconstruction of Kentucky and Missouri by Aaron Astor '95. The book focuses on the border states Kentucky and Missouri and places them in context of local, southern, and national politics. It examines how they formalized the previous resistance to slavery, even as new black citizenship and voting rights triggered a violent white reaction and a new definition of white identity.

  • Jason Mariasis looked at 25 liberal arts schools before he found Hamilton. It was a perfect fit right away—he applied Early Decision. Four years later as a new Hamilton graduate, he has found another perfect fit at Capital One Financial’s Digital Strategies group, where he will be employed beginning this summer.

  • Colby-Sawyer College has awarded William Thomas '72 the Nancy Beyer Opler '56 Award for Excellence in Advising. Thomas is a professor of natural sciences at the college and a cellular and developmental biologist.  In the summer he conducts research on cell adhesion at the Curie Institute in Paris.

  • Julia Litzky ’12 doesn’t sleep much, and that annoys her. “I used to be able to run off three hours a night freshman year,” she said, “but now I have to get  five or six.” In between finalizing her acceptance to Dartmouth’s M.D./Ph.D. program, volunteering at the Writing Center and crafting her own metal jewelry, it’s surprising she had time to sleep at all as her time at Hamilton wound down.

  • During the recent All-Alumni Bicentennial Reunion, brothers of  Psi Upsilon presented a check for $2500 to the Clinton Fire Department. In the 1980s the Clinton Fire Department responded to a fire at the fraternity house. Brothers of Psi U never forgot the CFD's response and wanted to express their gratitude after all these years.

  • On May 1, Sourcebooks released I Love Charts: The Book by Jason Oberholtzer '08 and Cody Westphal '08.  The book is a collection of the best previously unpublished charts from their blog I Love Charts, which was created in 2009 and has grown to 100,000 followers on Tumblr and a half a million views a month. The Huffington Post ranked the blog first on their list of "33 Tumblogs You Need to Follow" and the New York Observer called it one of the "100 funniest Tumblrs…ever."

  • Having approved design construction documents for a new theatre and studio arts building, the Board of Trustees on June 2 authorized the officers of the college to enter into a contract with Charles A. Gaetano Construction Corp. of Utica to build new studio arts and theatre facilities in an amount not to exceed $46.8 million. Construction will begin this month and completion of the building is expected in summer 2014.

  • More reunion memories were made on Friday, June 1, as events continued throughout the day and into the evening. Among highlights were Bicentennial Colleges with Edward "Ned" Walker ' 62,  Elaine Weiss K'73 and Robert Moses '56, a night of jazz, and fireworks over Royce Baseball Field.
