Citation for Bruce Gaylord ’70 & Gail Kelly P’06,’09
In your 25th reunion yearbook, Bruce, you wrote that you loved everything about Hamilton. Those were no mere words. We can’t count all the ways in which you and Gail have not only acted on that sentiment, but ignited in others your affection for the College. When you make calls seeking support from parents or alumni, they say yes so quickly that you breeze through your dozens of contacts and come back for more. We’ve seen the cumulative impact your work has had to the great benefit of the College, and we thank you for it.
In person, you are just as effective. You make it look effortless, but we know the dedication it takes to be ever-present, ever-gracious organizers, hosts, or guests at all of those Fairfield County events. Somehow you make each person who attends feel welcomed and connected.
Between you both, you’ve covered just about every volunteer role — president of the Fairfield County Alumni Association; members of the Parents Leadership Council and HART, the Hamilton Admission Recruiting Team; and volunteers for the Career Center and the Annual Fund at the leadership level. Bruce, when you retired from your legal career and wanted to take on additional duties for your alma mater, we wondered, if only for a minute, what more we could ask. But ask we did, and you and Gail agreed to co-chair the Parents Fund. You’ve excelled in this position, as we knew you would.
What’s more, we’re proud that Hamilton is a Gaylord family tradition. Both of your sons are alumni, as is Bruce’s brother, Lawrence. And although we can’t thank you enough, it’s always you who are ready with gestures of appreciation for alumni and parents, just as you are thoughtful with the staff and student interns who work in our Alumni and Parent Relations offices. Add up all you do, and you’ve created the Gold Standard for others to follow. That’s why, with our deepest gratitude, we present you with the 2017 Volunteer of the Year Award.
