Following Who Are You? (2022), the first book in Bob Lund’s Lake Superior Trilogy, come these final installments where cliffhangers and unresolved issues come to a head with sometimes deadly consequences.
In The Ghost, protagonist Lincoln Barnes has left the Minneapolis PD to start anew in Lake County, Minn., as Sheriff Sam MacDonald’s chief detective. “The bizarre murder of a young man on the shores of Lake Superior sets off a series of seemingly unrelated crimes that challenge Barnes and MacDonald and include the kidnapping of a mining executive and the use of deadly chemical weapons. Despite the FBI’s involvement, Barnes takes center stage with a lively cast of new characters who will keep the reader guessing and second guessing,” the publisher previews.
Barnes’ story comes to a conclusion in Avenging the Dead after she learns the truth about a murder. She and MacDonald are confronted with new challenges “from nefarious bankers, mysterious deaths on a Great Lakes cruise, and the evil machinations of a billionaire heiress. In the end, Barnes is desperate to avenge a handful of victims, but the price of justice may be too high,” notes the publisher.
As one reviewer wrote, “Lots of twists and turns with some major gotchas. It had me reading past my bedtime to see if I had figured out the bad guy. Nope, I didn’t, but it’s fun to read a well put together murder mystery. I really like the realism of the story and the Lake Superior venue.”
The author’s writing is informed by his experiences as a lawyer, judge, corporate executive, and lover of northeastern Minnesota. He grew up near the shores of Lake Superior.
