William John Milton, Jr. '67

William John Milton, Jr. ’67 died at his home in Short Hills, N.J., on July 29, 2023. Born in Philadelphia on Feb. 17, 1944, he grew up in Plandome, Long Island, and came to Hamilton from Manhasset High School. On the Hill, he was a member of Psi Upsilon fraternity and majored in economics.
Following graduation, Bill joined the U.S. Navy in September 1967 and entered Officer Candidate School in Newport, R.I., where he was commissioned as an ensign. He served for three years, for a time on the destroyer USS Farragut while it was deployed in the Mediterranean.
Honorably discharged with the rank of lieutenant junior grade in January 1971, Bill undertook a major course change in life and enrolled in the master’s program in forest economics at the University of Montana in Missoula. After he completed the program in 1973, he was hired as an executive assistant to the dean of the School of Forestry.
In 1975, he left Montana to pursue an M.B.A. at the University of California at Berkeley. He earned his degree in 1977. On Sept. 17, 1977, he married Leslie Ann Schenck whom he had met in Missoula. They had three daughters.
Bill and the family later moved to the New York City area and settled in Short Hills, N.J. He worked as a technology analyst for Brown Brothers, Harriman & Co. on Wall Street and as president of Division Street Realty Corp., his family’s commercial real estate business in Short Hills.
Bill served as treasurer for the Center for Domestic Violence in New York City and collected rare dictionaries. He was a runner and a hiker when the opportunities presented themselves.
William J. Milton, Jr. is survived by his wife, three daughters, and five grandchildren.
