The COOP Service Interns

What will I do in CSI?

As a CSI, you’ll begin service at the beginning of the academic year. You’ll have a significant service experience with one of our key community partner nonprofits. By your fourth semester, you'll be contributing in a major way to your community partner agency.

CSI interns work with an administrator in a local nonprofit organization who will orient you to the agency and supervise your work, and will also mentor you in nonprofit administration and direct service. You’ll also be assigned a campus mentor from the COOP to meet in one-on-one sessions to help guide your internship experience.

You’ll become part of a tight-knit student CSI group. Part of your internship stipend covers time spent in required reflection sessions with your CSI cohort which take place every Thursday evening from 6:30-8:00 PM. Plus, you’ll become a leader in various service initiatives of the COOP.

Who is eligible?

Four to five first-year students will be accepted, with preference given to students who have work-study as part of their financial aid package. Preference will also be given to students who have demonstrated leadership and initiative in the area of community service during high school, and who demonstrate an interest in becoming part of a small group experience while in college.

How do I apply?

Please email Director of Community Outreach Amy James at ajames@hamilton.edu or call the COOP at 315-859-4016 if you are interested in becoming part of the CSI program. You will receive an application to fill out and return, and will be notified during Orientation if you have been selected to interview. Interviews with COOP staff will take place once classes begin, and selection will be complete by early September. Work at the site will begin the third full week of September.
