While most newly purchased laptops will perform adequately, IT has a few recommendations to help guide you with your purchase, including information about receiving Microsoft Office for free on the Library and Information Technology Services (LITS) resources for new students page.

The College does not have a contractual agreement with any cellular carriers. AT&T Wireless and Verizon Wireless are the two recommended vendors for service on our campus and in our area. Cellular service agreements can be acquired at the local stores. The College Bookstore offers pre-paid cellular air time minutes.

AT&T Wireless offers Hamilton College students a discount of 18% off their personal service plan. The account must be in the student's name. To apply for the discount visit http://www.att.com/wireless/hamiltonstudents or visit the main local AT&T Store, Consumer Square, 4777 Commercial Drive, New Hartford, NY 13413 Students will need the following code 02928897 and their Hamilton College ID card.

In case of emergency, you can contact campus safety at 315-859-4141 any time of the day. They will have emergency contact information of staff members on call or can direct you to someone who can help.

If a student needs medical assistance when the health center is closed, you can contact Campus Safety at 859-4141 to arrange free Uber transportation to a local ER or Urgent Care facility. (See: After-Hours Care on the Health Center website)

The Counseling Center offers a wide array of wellness-based services, including group therapy experiences, in-person meetings with staff or peer counselors, consultation with a registered dietitian, psychiatric services, a variety of wellness services, and 24/7/365 crisis coverage.

The Hill Card is your student’s identification card, meal plan card, residence hall access card, library card, and campus debit card.

  • The tool parents use to deposit funds to a student’s Hill Card is eAccounts.
  • Guest depositors should type in the email address of the Hill Card holder.
  • The eAccounts mobile app is available on the App Store and Google Play.

Hamilton students don’t need a car on campus to run an errand, visit the mall or go out to dinner and a movie. They can use the Jitney shuttle service, sign up for a Zipcar, take a taxi, Lyft, Uber, or hop the public bus. (See: How to Get Around)

The College is eight miles southwest of Utica, where students can travel by train or bus; 45 minutes east of Syracuse where students can travel by bus, plane, or train; 90 minutes west of Albany, where student can travel by bus, plane, and train.

About half of Hamilton’s students are members of local, non-residential fraternities and sororities. Students who choose to join these organizations generally do so during the first semester of their second year.
