Athletic Tailgates

Tailgating is approved in designated areas (generally parking lots and their adjacent grassy areas).

Tailgating should take place directly behind your vehicle and should not impede traffic flow to or within the lot. Tailgating without a vehicle should take place within the parking space area, or nearby grass areas adjacent to lots.

Parking and tailgating on Griffin Road is not permitted.

Saving spaces for future arriving guests is not permitted. No cones, sandwich boards, or other items may be used to hold spaces.

Indoor facilities are not available for tailgating.

Alcohol Consumption is permitted inside the designated tailgating zones only. Only individuals who are 21 years of age or older may posses, consume, transport, or store alcoholic beverages. These individuals must be prepared to show valid identification at all times.

All alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages must be in cans or plastic cups/containers. Glass bottles, kegs, party balls, multi-quart containers, are prohibited.

All drinking paraphernalia and drinking “games” of any sort are prohibited.

Alcoholic beverages are expressly prohibited at the site of competition and in spectator areas.

Propane (gas) grills are permitted, but must be elevated. Open flames (i.e. fire pits) and charcoal grills are prohibited. Propane grills may not be operated within 10’ of a building.

The preparation and consumption of food is limited to personal use. No food may be sold at tailgating activities.

Pop-up tents are permissible, but may not exceed 10’x20’.

Active sports (i.e. frisbee or football throwing) are permitted as long as the activity does not endanger anyone within the surrounding area or roadway.

Tailgaters are responsible for the disposal of trash and debris in appropriate trash receptacles following the conclusion of each tailgate. Tailgaters are expected to maintain a clean and sanitary space. Hamilton College will not provide catering, tables, chairs, or electricity for tailgating activities.

Personal belongings should be secured before leaving your tailgate area. Hamilton College is not liable for damage, accidents, loss, or theft of personal property.

All tailgating must conclude within one hour after the contest concludes.

Unruly behavior will not be tolerated, and is subject to College policies and local/state/federal law. All visitors are expected to respect and adhere to College policies while on campus and adjacent properties. Visitors are expected to be respectful of all those associated with the event, including participants, coaches, officials, administrators, and other fans. Racial, sexist, homophobic or other derogatory comments, including profanity, or other intimidating actions will not be tolerated and are grounds for removal from the site of competition.
