If you have a medical emergency, call the Campus Safety Emergency Line at 315-859-4000 for HCEMS (Hamilton College Emergency Medical Service).

The Health Center is pleased to offer after-hours nursing triage phone service, Fonemed.

When the Health Center is closed, after hours and on weekends, students may call the Health Center at 315-859-4111 and press “1” and be connected to the Fonemed call center.  Urgent calls will be answered immediately, but for most individuals, a message will be taken and an RN will call back, typically within 30 minutes.  The Nurse will review the concerns, provide information, and if necessary, help direct students to off-campus medical resources.  Health Center staff will review the reports the next business day during the academic year and reach out to students to see if they require follow-up care or additional supports.

Looking to talk to a nurse about NON-EMERGENT medical issues, especially after hours?  If you are a student that is enrolled in MVP insurance here at Hamilton, there is a 24/7 Nurse Advice Line available to you, for NON-EMERGENT medical questions, at 1-888-687-6277.

You can also log into the MVP website to email a nurse via MVPs secure online form. Again, this service is for NON-EMERGENT medical questions/advice. *This service is only available to those enrolled in an MVP policy. For those students enrolled in a individual policy, we encourage you to reach out to your insurance provider and ask about this service. Most insurance companies offer a similar service to their participants.*

If you are not feeling well and the health center is closed, and you need medical attention, you can go to one of local urgent care facilities: Slocum Dickson Urgent Care, and WellNow Urgent Care. There are also two local hospitals: Faxton-St. Luke's, and St. Elizabeth's.

No, the health center does not charge for office visits. Students will be charged for medications given from the health center and for rapid testing performed, EKG's and for "No Show" appointments.

No, all students may receive services from the health center.

No, the student health service is not equipped to bill individual student insurance companies. If you are seen here and are billed for medications or tests, our office will provide you with a bill which you may submit to your insurance carrier. A copy of the bill is kept in the students medical chart. A copy of the bill with limited information is also sent to the business office and the charge is applied to the tuition bill. Please note the date for any health center charges that appear on the statement of accounts is not the date the student was seen in the health center, it is the date the business office applied the charge to the billing statement. Copies of health center invoices are available upon the written request of the student.

Yes, we will need to be notified of any changes to your health insurance. Please have a front and back copy of your card sent to the health center.

Transportation to medical appointments off-campus must to be arranged through the Hamilton College Transportation Office at 315-859-4515.  Please call the transportation office at least one day in advance to make arrangements for this service.  Transportation for multiple visits will require a note from a provider stating the need for transportation (The note does not need to state why you are going to the appointments).  For after-hours or weekend health-related transportation needs (when the health center is closed), please call Campus Safety at 315-859-4141.  Please be advised that failure to cancel an appointment for scheduled transportation my result in a noncancellation fee which will be added to the student's tuition bill.

The health center staff will only contact your parents if there is a life threatening illness or concern. If you are being sent to the hospital, we ask you to contact your parents to let them know. If you sign a medical release giving the provider permission, the provider will discuss the condition with your parent. If you were seen at the health center and your parents call to discuss the visit, you will need to sign a medical release while you are here granting permission for the provider to discuss your appointment with your parents.
