For First-Year Students
Student Health Portal
Students need to manage their health entry requirements within the student health portal. If you experience any difficulties in completing these requirements, contact the Health Center at 315-859-4111 so we can work with you directly.
Vaccinations
Meningitis
New York State law (Public Health Law 2167) requires us to distribute information about meningococcal disease and vaccination to all students. Please talk with your healthcare provider about this vaccine. If you decide not to receive the meningococcal meningitis vaccine, you must sign the declination on the form in the health records portal.
MMR
All students enrolled in a New York State College must be in compliance with New York State Public Health Law 2165. Failure to meet these requirements may result in inability to attend classes and/or registration hold.
Measles
Two doses of live measles vaccine is required. The first dose must have been received no more than 4 days prior to the student’s first birthday and 2nd dose no less than 28 days after the first dose. (MMR series fulfills this requirement)
Mumps
One dose of live mumps vaccine administered no more than 4 days prior to the students first birthday. (MMR series fulfills this requirement)
Rubella
One dose of live rubella vaccine administered no more than four days prior to the student’s first birthday. (MMR series fulfills this requirement)
Health Insurance Coverage
Hamilton College requires that all enrolled students carry valid health insurance coverage. Students who enroll at Hamilton will be billed an annual premium of $2483.76 for the Hamilton College Student Health Insurance Plan unless they submit an online waiver and provide proof of alternate coverage.
Eligible financial aid students who have been billed the student health insurance premium may receive an additional grant to offset a portion of the student health insurance premium. The Financial Aid Office will notify students directly regarding their insurance grant eligibility; no action is required by the student. If you have any questions regarding your eligibility for a student health insurance grant, please contact the Financial Aid Office at 1-800-859-4413.
International students are required to buy the student health plan unless they have U.S.-based insurance that meets the same requirements as that of U.S. insurance plans.
You should contact your health insurance carrier regarding your health insurance coverage while in college. Your plan must provide equivalent coverage to the student health plan. This means that you have full access to providers in the Hamilton College vicinity including mental health services on a non-urgent as well as urgent basis. Check your existing plan to ensure providers as well as lab services are available in our area.
Coverage cannot be waived after September 1, 2023. Once enrolled in the insurance plan, your coverage will stay in effect for the policy term of August 13, 2023-August 12, 2024.
Please notify the health center of any changes in your health insurance coverage. Also, be sure to carry a copy of your insurance card with you while you are a student at Hamilton.
