Before reading further, make sure that you are in a safe place:

  • If you need emergency assistance on campus, call Campus Safety at 315-859-4000
  • If you need emergency assistance off campus call 911

Once in a safe place: do not change your clothes, brush your teeth, shower, bathe, drink, eat, wash your hands. This is difficult but will be pertinent if you decide to allow collection of evidence and to report the incident in the future.

It is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible after a sexual assault. Ideally within 96 hours if wanting a forensic exam, there are timeframes for interventions.

see algorithm

  • Seeking medical attention does not obligate you to report.
  • Reporting the incident does not obligate you to undergo a forensic medical exam.

*If you are unsure if you are a candidate for a forensic medical exam, have an open discussion with the hotline worker so they can best advocate for your wishes.*
