A review of Marc Singer’s Breaking the Frames: Populism and Prestige in Comics Studies (University of Texas Press, 2018), by LITS Associate Director for Digital Learning and Research Nhora Lucía Serrano, was published in the spring issue of Inks: The Journal of the Comics Studies Society.

Bryn Mawr College, a member of LACOL, recently designed a professional development Institute for faculty to work thru the design of an online course. The modules have been made available to other LACOL institutions, and give faculty an opportunity to work asynchronously to devise, create and reflect on the different components of an online course. We are pleased to make this institute available to Hamilton faculty as they reflect on their experiences this spring, and how that information will reflect in their teaching in the future.

Hamilton College is one of more than fifty institutions supporting the work of this open access academic press.

As COVID-19 began spreading throughout the United States, Director of LITS Academic Digital Initiatives Janet Oppedisano and Director of Sponsored Program Grants Jeff Ritchie began researching various ways in which the College might be able to help in the fight against the virus.

"Clearly, learning environments should aim to engage learners, make participants feel welcome, and give everyone an equal opportunity to participate—that is, they should be inclusive. The pedagogical design is paramount in this effort, and well-articulated sets of principles such as the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Guidelines have been developed to inform inclusive teaching practices in the classroom. Likewise, instructional designers have made good progress in understanding how to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in online learning environments."

LITS is pleased to announce the availability of a new digital collection, The American Socialist. Published by the Oneida Community beginning in 1876, this collection is rich with information about this religiously-based, socialist focused on living as one family, sharing all property, work, and love.
